About the Maker
These colourful products are made at a project employing Zulu women and youth from rural communities surrounding eThekwini in South Africa. The enterprise has been in operation for more than 30 years, working with around 120 artisans to create positive change by offering individual training and skills development.
Most of the beaders work from home which allows them to continue the everyday work of life – raising children and caring for the elderly, as well as tending crops and livestock. By combining an out of home income with the demands of family life, the cultural traditions are maintained and celebrated.
