Our stunning Shweshwe bags and slippers are made by South African women working from home using traditional skills such as weaving and beadwork. These women do sewing work around their daily activities and teach their skills to the younger generation.
The Shweshwe products are becoming more and more intricate, due to the increasing skills of our artisans. Women in this project have been creating, learning, designing and coming together over the last nine years! The ethos behind this project is ‘using hands to create, care and share’.
The sale of these gorgeous and colourful items supports not only the female artisans who make them, but also the local community. This project supports a nutrition scheme, mobile medical assistance as well as a childcare centre in the community.
