Ethically sourced leather
The Hamlin Shop's range of leather bags - featuring the Meron Leather Cross Bag, Karana Leather Shoulder Bag and Fikirte Leather Shoulder Bag - is made by the Entoto project in Ethiopia. The certified Fairtrade organisation provides a reliable income to over 100 women.
Entoto's leather bags are made from ethically sourced leather. This means that only premium leathers which are the byproduct of the food and agriculture industries are used. As such, the animals are not raised for the express purpose of using their leather for goods; they are primarily farm animals.
Each leather bag is handmade by Ethiopian artisans. This reduces the impact of the industrial process on the environment, as well as ensuring quality and premium quality.
The wardrobe staple
Unlike synthetic variations, natural leather products are made to last. Moreover, each piece is unique, with the texture, grain and colour lending a distinctive quality to your bag. The Entoto group provides sustainable employment to women from poor communities that have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Through the provision of fair wages in a supportive environment, these artisans are able to create beautiful bags and jewellery.
Proceeds from each ethically sourced leather bag sold at the Hamlin Shop support Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia's work to eradicate obstetric fistula. Patients are able to recuperate from free fistula repair surgery and rebuild their lives, thanks to proceeds from Hamlin Shop products.
