As the mercury plummets, it’s important to find items that keep you warm, comfortable and cosy. The Hamlin Shop is home to a number of treats which make the winter months oh so magical. We asked the Team Hamlin staff to tell us their favourite Hamlin Shop products to curl up in front of the fire with.
Handwoven Deborah Wrap
For days when the weather can’t decide if it should be hot or cold, the Handwoven Deborah Wrap is a go-to. Lightweight, extra-large and warm, this scarf is a versatile addition to any wardrobe! Both the black and ivory colour ways are classic designs which instantly make an outfit chic.
This cotton for this scarf is sourced from various small-holder farms in Ethiopia and is 100% hand-spun. The cotton is then hand-woven using techniques inspired by ancient weaving traditions.
When she met Queen Elizabeth, Dr Catherine Hamlin gifted the Queen a scarf from the marvellous range of this Fairtrade supplier.
You can purchase a Handwoven Deborah Wrap in Black or Ivory.
Brave and Beautiful Wrap
Our Brave and Beautiful Wraps are a testament to the strength and determination of our incredible fistula patients. Each wrap is hand-crafted by long-term patients at Desta Mender, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia’s rehabilitation centre, where patients learn skills that help them gain independence and return to their communities.
We love that you can feel the hand-crafted quality of these wraps – the raw Ethiopian cotton is full of character, and each wrap bears the name of the patient who created it.
Use it as a throw to snuggle under for nights in front of the fireplace, or as a wrap to rug up in on chilly days.
Our Brave and Beautiful Wraps can be purchased from here.
Soy Tealight Lantern
The perfect gift or décor piece with a difference, the Soy Tealight Lantern is a firm favourite at Team Hamlin. Swazi artisans use the ancient “millefiore” technique to decorate the lanterns. The soy wax candle casts a warm, romantic glow trough the labyrinthian, hand-crafted designs of the lanterns. A fantastic accompaniment to a cosy night-in, these lanterns will enhance the ambience of any home.
These unique candles are made in Eswatini (Swaziland) by the Swazi Candle project, a Fairtrade organisation which provides workers with healthcare, insurance, food and travel allowances, as well as inclusion in all decision-making processes. We love that purchases of these gorgeous candles not only support Swazi artisans but also raise funds for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia to treat women suffering from obstetric fistula.
Discover our Soy Tealight Lantern range: lanterns are available in Okavango Blue, African Summer, Blue Willow and Congo White iterations.
As you keep yourself warm with our winter faves, you will also be supporting two great causes: the Fairtrade artisans who create our gorgeous products and Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia's efforts to provide free and holistic care to women who have suffered the trauma and indignity of an obstetric fistula.
